I didn't even think of Minecraft. You are right, they are trying to turn it into Minecraft instead of trying to turn it into EVE Online and that's going the wrong way with things. My Son is playing some spaceship game with graphics from the C64 era and he is all addicted to it. If they built into this game a quarter of the features in his spaceship game, you could never pull people away from it.

I think that beyond being able to randomly generate planets, they really had no idea where to go with this product.

No one except maybe survival/Minecraft fans wanted base-building.
Quests given by who? To do what? Where?

Again, once you fill the game with npcs, enemies, script behaviors for them, etc., you are talking about building another full game on top of what already exists.

While "content" in terms of video games is really broad, it's certainly not nonsensical; it's used daily to describe the "stuff to do" in a game. It's a word that's very pertinent in the discussion of video games. It's a word virtually all of us have used at one point or another.

Arguably, No Man's Sky is in the weird situation of having lots of content in terms of sheer amount...but that content is so shallow that the amount doesn't even matter.

The content needs better direction; there's stuff to do, but it's not necessarily what anyone wants.

There are already NPC's all over the game. It wouldn't be difficult to build in some of the basic fetch quests. "Go get me XXX mineral." "Bring back the mystic object from XXX world."

Putting in more ships to fight and giving them something to do with their time other than just the scrub fighters you see now would be a lot more complex, but it would certainly go a long way toward fixing the game. A lot of that would still work within the structure of the current game. How about tasking some of the AI with doing what you are doing? Mining minerals, building bases (Ha, Ha) and buying ships? Then you could really muck things up for them - or you could trade with them for the minerals they need. A huge part of these kind of games is usually having certain minerals be scarse and the prices higher somewhere else in the galaxy so you are encouraged to go four systems away to sell stuff. That is totally missing here as pretty much every mineral is on every planet. That could certainly be fixed.

...and that's how games are made lmao. They made a world/verse and didn't 'fill the game with npcs, enemies, script behaviors for them, etc.,' which is why they failed... there's no game, it's just a fancy land generator with no content.

oh and need I remind you he told us the npc's would have quests and they wouldn't just stand around waiting for us but would have little 'lives of their own', that they would give us stuff to do and mysteries to solve. We're not talking about making a whole new game, we're talking about finishing they one they advertised but failed to produce after they figured out how to RNG a universe. Hell they couldn't even be bothered with the player model, it's literally a land generator and they gave the the player control over the camera... it's like selling Unity engine as a game.

it's fucking lazy bullshit.

Um what do you think content actually is when you're thinking about it? NMS is shallow beyond belief, never mind really doesn't feature really much of any of the content they said it would, no what's nonsensical is the pretentious crap spewing from your mouth.

First, no you aren't making "another full game" because the art assets are mostly there. They'll need some more effects animations for combat and new weaponry, but the art, for the most part, is done. Scripting AI and adding GUI's and placing NPCs, etc. are significant tasks too, but that's why he should have seen the millions of pre-order and grown his company to actually make the game that he pitched.

I enjoyed and still enjoy NMS from time to time. I'm not sure if I missed all the offending advertising material or if I was just jaded enough to see through it , but the game I got was pretty much the game I was expecting (UI differences aside).

The one thing I wish there was , was true MP where you could invite someone into your own procedural universe and explore it together or just let them see what you've done there.

Base building sounds neat, but when I think of being so mobile going from planet to planet and with no one around to see what I've done after I leave, it does seem kind of pointless.

Only way base building could be truly interesting if it was some sort of extra-dimensional base accessed by some portal / gateway that could be built on new worlds. Maybe even use it as a portal gateway to invite other players for true MP (sorry daydreaming hehehe).

lmao figures... they've completely given up on making not only the game they advertised but any game at all. Instead they're going to continue the 'we sold you a game engine' theme and give players more sandbox tools but no absolutely no reason to use them.

I mean the whole point of the game is to get the center of the universe, why the fuck would you build a base? why would you stock pile good to trade in more favorable systems? why would you do any of this shit except to completely avoid the one and only game element they actually delivered?

pathetic, sad, disgraceful... I can't wait to never hear from this company again.

They're trying to become Minecraft. But you can't do that.

LOL@sandy!

Clearly, you are not being mocked if you did not buy this travesty of a 'game.' Clearly you also are easily triggered. Safe space much?

the only thing that triggers me is you, which is why I took the fine opportunity to tell you about it.... don't tend to hear a lot of swearing, brash, confrontational speaking in 'safe places'. Your mocking is not up to par today terran, go back to bed and try again.

Find your happy safe space, lol!

Shame on those of you who bought this game. The 'lie, release, maybe patch later' approach to gaming relies upon you to enable it. You should be embarrassed, or at least willing to change your approach. But you most likely won't. Too bad. It would be better for gaming if you did!
