I don't see the appeal. For $50 more you can have the xb270(1)hu but I suppose competition is a good thing

So does Acer, evidenced by the one I listed. It is the cream of the crop and 3" larger than that Dell for about $50 more. Same features. Competition is good, but the Dell should be cheaper if it wants to compete

Good:
Price
2560 x 1440 at 165 Hz(with overclock)
Tilt and swivel
Pixel Per Inch (PPI): 123
4 x USB 3.0 ports
1 x Audio line-out
G-SYNC Support
Flicker Free
Response Time: 1ms

Bad
23.8 Inches
Panel Type: TN
Color Gamut: 82% (CIE1976) / 72% (CIE1931)

It's a nice monitor but it's too small to use alone and has the panel type we're trying to move away from.

Coincidentally to this thread, yesterday I went out to buy an Asus PG348Q. Unfortunately, it's sold out in the entirety of Hong Kong! They even checked the distribution warehouse...

didn't even realize it was TN... yuck, nice catch rommel. TN is the devil.

as for the PG348Q, never was a fan of the ultrawide, causes more issues than it solves. I went back to dual monitors, ends up working better for me and I can't really justify the huge jump in price for the ultrawide considering the lack of added value beyond aesthetics

They had three swiveled ROG Swifts set up in surround. It gave me headaches.

I'm not a fan of surround either. Dual monitors works for me. One nice big one for gaming like my xb270hu, and another lesser one on the side for multitasking. I wouldn't mind if my main one was curved considering how close I sit to it, but I'm not going to pine over it. The xb270hu is the most amazing monitor I've bought in the last decade and it makes me very happy. I really can't recommend it enough.

I really like dual monitors when using a laptop as a desktop. With doohickeys (I cannot think of a better term) like the Razer Core becoming more common, that set up should be more frequent outside the business realm. After using my current 30" monitor for so long I would find it very difficult to go back to a smaller unit such as 23, 24 or even 27". This is why my heart is pretty much set on the Asus Curved beast.

perhaps I should do a write up on a DIY razer core and why you shouldn't pay for that overpriced thing. You can even get external graphics without a thunderbolt or other modern connector on a laptop.

I'd listen, read or watch that.

just wanted to add this if anyone is still watching: http://www.pcgamer.com/the-best-gaming-monitors/

I agree for the most part, but I disagree with the two TN panels. Really there should be only one TN panel in the list and it should be for pro gaming, setting aside all other reqs for pure response time. Everything else should be IPS.

It's amazing. Far too nice for the awful wood TV stand in my living room that came with my flat.

Annnnd its broken. The DisplayPort input conked out. Asus is coming to my home to check it out. If they cannot resolve the issue, I'm RMAing it.

which is the major reason all of their RoG monitors are not recommended... it's not that the specs aren't good, but the quality is dodgy, has been for a long time now. Then you've got Acer making monitors with the same specs but better quality and cheaper... well the choice is obvious.

Asus really needs to get it's shit together. I hope they fix it for ya.

Acer quality bad Asus quality good is a common retort. I don't care which is better, as long as I get my GSYNC back. I tried playing Overwatch over HDMI yesterday and... you know input lag is kinda like video quality. You don't notice the upgrade but when you go back it's TERRIBLE.

yeah I would be lost without gsync at this point. It has made such a radical difference in my enjoyment of gaming.
