It's been awhile since I've played a good RTS. I hope this one is good. I can't remember who said it but why leverage the Homeworld IP for this? Well, as long as it's good, I guess I don't care.

Because they originally tried to get the homeworld IP but lost the bid to gearbox. decided to make it a homage to it under a different name. Gearbox then got in contact with them and you have a new homeworld game.

I didn't think the Bus Simulator series would make it that far. I hope Penn & Teller's heirs keep getting a cut.

That's not entirely accurate, BBI is made up of mostly ex-Relic devs who worked on Homeworld 1 & 2. They founded BBI with the intent of making a spiritual successor to Homeworld and began work on a game called Shipbreakers which was planned to be a MMO F2P RTS.

This was several years before THQ went bankrupt, which is the point where they attempted to buy the Homeworld IP but were outbid by Gearbox. Gearbox approached BBI and offered them the opportunity to repurpose Shipbreakers as an official Homeworld game.

Many of the reviews have observed that despite being landlocked, Deserts of Kharak still very much embues the same atmosphere, artistic design and game mechanics as the original Homeworld games.

Reviews here:

http://opencritic.com/game/2074/home...erts-of-kharak

Note that currently skirmish AI seems to be bugged. There has also been whinging about only 5 MP maps being included, but BBI has assured everyone that more free maps are planned.

Yarr... RTS!

Loving the hand-drawn look on the characters.

Obviously manages to attain some of the original's atmosphere through good audio.

9 hours of gameplay (as I understand it) doesn't justify a $50 purchase. I want to play this but not enough to pay full price. Tomb Raider for PC comes out next week. That's a full price game for me.

The SP campaign is between 10 and 15 hours if you play on classic difficulty, which is actually in line with Homeworld 1 and 2.

But it's 2016!

or did I use the <current year> incorrectly?

Actually this game is pretty cool. I really like the supercarrier on treads. And the music is sweet.

But it's an RTS. They are 90% replayable with MP. I'll replay a good RTS in 99% MP mode over its kife.

Not arguing with this at all, simply responding to the complaint about the SP campaign being too short.
