Gearbox Co-Founder and Fiction Author, Landon Montgomery, Has Passed Away

From PC Gamer:

Quote:
Landon Montgomery, co-founder of Gearbox Software, has died. The news was confirmed by the official Gearbox Software Twitter account earlier today.

...

Montgomery worked with some of the best known game series of the last decade, including Half-Life, Brothers in Arms, Halo: Combat Evolved and more. In the '90s he worked briefly with Bethesda Softworks as an artist and level designer. After co-founding Gearbox Software in 1999, Montgomery left the studio in 2010. At the time of his death he was employed by Nvidia...
I didn't get to know Landon until after his Gearbox days. I found him to be particularly perceptive and good at sussing out people's strengths. He was always professional and insisted people treat others with professionalism, something often lacking in the gaming industry.

Landon was my best friend. His superpower was understanding people and being a good mentor and he loved his job at Nvidia.

No one has been forth coming with cause of death but he was a pretty healthy mid-40s, i cant imagine it was the covid-19 death reported in San Fran for 3/25. He texted me Sunday and everything was fine.

I need to find out what happened but I can’t even go to the funeral cause of lockdown.

I don't know anything about him, but am sorry that he passed. Doesn't matter why he passed, it's just terrible when someone does so young. RIP. We can all only hope we don't pass so young.

He does sound like a great guy. So sorry for your loss, and that you can't be at his funeral (large gatherings bans all around).

Sorry for your loss. Always matters why people meet untimely ends because it sometimes reminds the rest of us how to be safer and live longer ourselves, and I'm sure that's what he would have wanted.

Like if I freaking die from diabetes, everyone should know that, and it should be a reminder to get off you ass more and avoid sugar and soda.

Well, fuck. That's just awful, man.

Is there anyone you can talk to? There's got to be a way you can find out more.

Thanks everyone. Landon had his issues I don't want to be one of those people who sugar coat a death. He was flawed like everyone else.

When the lock down subsides there will be a service and I'll be the "Speaker of the Dead" (Orson Scott Card reference for those interested in reading a fantastic book), like I always do at funerals. Tell the balanced version of the person's life instead of just all the good things.

I did find out the cause of death which was not COVID-19 or violence related so I know he didn't suffer and that brings some piece of mind.

Terrible to hear. He was one of the old school from back when Gearbox was just rocking out great titles all the time and when they were frequent visitors to EvAv.
