Yeah, there are a few "ads", in the form of Windows Store (only place to get apps) and I think I remember a "Get Office!" but like everything else on the start menu, you can just remove them. They don't display actual advertisements.

Right, ads for MS products, it's not a huge deal but they're there. Also they made Solitaire a pay for app of all things.. Solitaire.
