The Oscar Nominations Announced #Oscars

The list of Oscar Nominations are out and the choices for best picture are... not good.

Quote:

Black Panther
Blackkklansman
Bohemian Rhapsody
The Favorite
Green Book
Roma
A Star Is Born
Vice
I see the Academy managed to virtue signal their way into avoiding another #OscarsSoWhite hash tag, but at the cost of nominating a bunch of crap no one cares about. Ratings this year are going to be devastating.

Ugh.... Black Panther as possible best movie, for real?

excalibur1814 01-22-2019 08:57 AM

I am so sorry but... Black Panther, to me, was so unbelievably generic and boring that I just do not understand. Yeah, fine, millions loved it but just like Wonder Woman... bland and boring despite the high production value and perfectly fine cast.

So you hate black people and women. Confirmed.

Black Panther was fine... but best movie?... not by a long shot.

Roma was boring as shit, every critic loved it because they are delusional.

My post is all subjective drivel, so take it for what you will.

Vice seemed to get a lot of nods. Great movie with some great acting (but not as good as The Big Short except in the demands of the acting), but it seemed strange to have virtually the entire principal cast nominated. If there was a Lead Actress in that film (and it is so, so fitting there wasn't), it might have gotten that too.

Break-down of Snubs. I like Bradley Cooper, probably had the most wild career in the current Hollywood paradigm. Kinda of wish he got a Directorial nod.

More chatter about Inclusion. Maybe there are more LGTBQ+ films because more are being made, not because the Academy is somehow becoming more progressive?

Black Panther as best picture was a bit much. That seemed, dare I say, a token inclusion.

*Completely independent of how she did,* it is a bit much to think of the woman from Poker Face getting an Academy Award on her first go, much less a nod. If Miley Cyrus becomes nominated in ten years time, welp.

The shitty part about this is that Black Panther was made in the same year as Infinity War, which is this generations Empire Strikes Back as far as I'm concerned. Michael B Jordan was dope AF in Black Panther, but aside from that, Infinity War outclassed it in every category down the line (except for "most black people" and "made by black people"). I'm glad to see a comic book (or Sci-Fi movie for that matter) finally get recognized by the Academy, but they missed the mark by a mile by recognizing the wrong film for no other reason than to virtue signal how "woke" they are.

Two steps forward, one step back.

I think once IW wraps up it could see some nominations, maybe.

Kinda like how LOTR was treated.

BadIronTree 01-22-2019 11:52 AM

how the hell The Favorite got 10 nominees ... I know the Greek guy from the most fucked up movies that he makes .... but come on.. it was an ok 8/10 movie with good actresses and script but it had a controversial ending ...

Black Panther = Ok super hero movie that was unique
Blackkklansman = just loled some times
Bohemian Rhapsody = was ok but the documentary was better
The Favorite = read above
Green Book = TBD
Roma = TBD
A Star Is Born = ok chick film with a obvious ending
Vice = Liberal Drama of real sad events of an "evil guy"

I don't thing any of them should be best film ...
I had more fun in Avengers and Spiderman :P

Well if they let Bohemian Rhapsody win, they'd be supporting the only GOOD movie of the bunch and a minority (gay) at the same time.

Besides, we had a black president, but still no gay president. So Bohemian should get it.

/s is for low IQ individuals. It's not my issue if they can't detect sarcasm.

Even if we weren't in this current environment of forcing diversity I think that people would question why Black Panther was included.

Then again, the movies that get nominated for Oscars have never been about what people like, but rather about what art critics like or who is "in" with the current crowd so I don't pay attention to that tripe anyway.

Brutal. Totally brutal. Respect.

Black Panther as best picture is simply the Academy vaccinating themselves against accusations of racism. Progressive virtue signaling is usually about just that...intended to stimulate a herd immune system response so they aren't attacked for being <insert pejorative tossed by progressives here>.

vallor 01-22-2019 02:26 PM

Wow, they went out of their way to avoid getting a hashtag this year.

Way to go Oscars! They got a couple of blockbusters in there. They got some movies with black people (no one cares if you are anything but black. Native American? Indian (dot, not feather), Hispanic, no one much cares about you) in front and behind the camera which will certainly lead to many a "I am glad to get this award on behalf of all my people" and other political acceptance speeches which everyone on the right side of history will veraciously agree with and applaud (which is everyone in that room; they had better OR ELSE!).

They got the LGBT++ covered, which was totally necessary after they couldn't bully Kevin Hart into apologizing (again) for his colorful past.

This is going to be the safest, least controversial awards ceremony nobody ever watched in like 50 years!

Reznoriam 01-22-2019 02:27 PM

Black panther and seven movies I've never heard of.

smgalia 01-22-2019 03:50 PM

I guess since the Kevin Hart debacle, the Academy had to do something to keep the mob at bay. Black Panther was ok, not Oscar nominee worthy, but ok. I'm surprised that Crazy Rich Asians wasn't included in this. I'm willing to bet Black Kkklansman gets the surprise win this year.

Followed closely by the DeGeneres debacle. :D
