Are these fun? What do you do in them? Is there a challenge, or a goal, other than planting crops, etc?

Its part farming simulation with driving equipment around and plowing/planting/harvesting, either manually yourself or with AI driving equipment once you set them up right. Large open area of multiple plots of land. And part management sim of whats a good crop to plant, whats selling the best, hauling crops with large trucks to rail yards and what not to sell, upgrading your fleet of equipment, buying better tools, etc. Last year's added animals to manage and care for. This year adds wood cutting.

Rather large mod community and also can do it in multiplayer.

Hmmm, I may have to give it a shot when it reaches a good Steam sale.

Forgot to mention, there is usually a demo near release or on release day of this series, also demos of the last 2 should be available.

I am so renting this one through gamefly. Fans of this game really love it. I must see what the hubub is about.
